API Solutions for Activities

An API (Application Programming Interface) connects your product's inventory with Expedia in real time, so you can manage your availability in one place using your system of choice

You may have an internally built API or use an online booking system utilizing API, with the main goal being to access important product information in a single location.

At the present time, the connectivity will enable the following features:

  • Check For Availability: When a customer tries to book one of your products on Expedia, the API will automatically check your available inventory prior to confirming the booking.
  • Booking Confirmation: When someone books one of your products on Expedia, that booking will automatically get logged into your API solution. You will no longer receive manual booking notifications via email through Expedia.
  • Cancellation Confirmation: Should a customer decide to cancel, we would change the status of that booking from "Confirmed" to "Canceled" directly in your API solution and release availability for the tickets canceled. You will no longer receive manual cancellation notifications via email through Expedia.
  • Pricing: Our system will automatically ingest and update product prices from your API solution so you do not need to manage it in our Extranet. Please contact your API provider to learn if this feature is supported.
  • Hotel Information: If your activity provides hotel pickup, we can capture the customer's hotel details at the time of booking and send you their details through the API.
  • Straight to-Gate Redemption: Our API ingests your bar-codes/QR codes directly from your API solution into Expedia vouchers, making the customers' check-in a seamless experience. You can use your own scanners to scan Expedia vouchers.
  • Fraud Prevention: Our API has a modern built-in solution to prevent fraudulent bookings. This tool is oriented for attraction and venue products specifically but can be used by any activity provider.

Some features may not be available with all API providers. Contact your provider to learn if each feature is supported, or check our Connectivity Provider Guide to research a range of providers and discover who best suits your needs.

At the present time, API connectivity will NOT enable the following features:

  • Days of the Week Availability: The scheduled days of the week when your product is available is managed outside our API connection. If you change the available days of the week on your API, you must also make the change in Partner Central, Expedia's self-service tool.
  • Content and Media: If you wish to make any changes to your product's content, photos, or video, please log into Partner Central and update it directly.
  • Product Structure: Discuss any changes to the structure of your product with the Partner Support Team directly. Changing your product structure could possibly interfere with the mapping and cause bookings to fail. Alterations that could break the API connection include:
    • Adding/removing/updating ticket types (e.g. Adult, Child, Infant, etc.)
    • Adding/removing/updating tour options (e.g. 9 AM departure, 2 PM departure, etc.)
